Zoey, my emotional service husky mix was hit by a car in front of our home on 9/25/2018. For many people, dogs are their pets. For me, and for my boyfriend Ethan, our fur babies are our life. I adopted Zoey in 2015 and since, she has helped to get me through the darkest days I've ever seen; the shining light through it all. Zoey has a great prognosis from her vet team that she will make a full recovery (possible minus one leg), and will go on to lead a happy life. Due to the critical nature of her injuries, she had a total of 52 hour ICU care. If she ends up needing the leg amputation, she will need further follow-up care and rehab. Zoey is only three years old and has so much life to live. Please donate so that I can continue to give her the best medical care and give her the chance she SO deserves.

Thank you from the bottom of my (and my family's) hearts.

Latest Update

Hello all! Tomorrow marks one month since Zoey's accident. She is healing steadily and enjoying her life. She took a dip in the river yesterday, said hi to our neighbor pig AND played a bit with her sister today. Her ribs still need time to heal, and she's sore in the evenings. A new x-ray has shown us that the disks in her cervical spine were crushed, which has led to complete loss of her left front leg. We have scheduled amputation surgery on November 9th. Aside from the remaining healing she must do...Zoey has been green lit by her vet. She's going to be just fine! I promise to be sending proper thank yous out soon. Without you, we wouldn't be able to choose surgery for Zoey. It's well known that tripawd dogs have solid and happy lives and I'm so grateful for you to help give her that chance. I'll post some post-surgery updates and pictures when we get there. We love you all.

Not much to tell today, other than Zoey getting stronger and stronger. Her joy for life shines through her pain, from eagerness to go for a walk, to trying to jump in the car on her own. We will decide on amputation on Friday. So far her leg isn't showing any sign of recovery but that's okay! Zoey is adapting well on only three legs and I'm confident that whatever happens, Zoey will be happy and healthy in no time.

Zoey is now 11 days post-accident. She continues to impress us with her will to get better and get back to her routine. Yesterday when I came home from work, she was STANDING (!!!!) in my bedroom wagging, waiting to see me. Turns out, she'd decided to relax in there and with minimal help walked to her "spot". To say I was shocked with pleasure is an understatement. Zoey has been mobile today around the living room, used her new ramp to go outside and used the front steps to come back in. She has a vet appointment on Monday and I am so excited to show her care team the progress she has made! Re-learning to balance and walk on three legs is no easy feat for a dog, especially when losing a front leg but she's taken it in stride and with a doggy smile is forcing her independence back.

We are one week into the recovery process. Zoey is doing so well! She has begun to try to walk on her own! Her left front leg is still useless. Zoey is quite the fighter and tries to follow us to other areas of the house if we aren't careful/she's not penned in. While it's still scary that she's not mobile by herself, I'm so happy she's trying and regaining strength each day. We love our baby and are so grateful for everyone's positivity and well wishes.
