A large (and growing) colony of feral cats is currently living by a demolished building on Mare Island and in need of TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) and hopefully also rescue or adoption.

There are 3 pregnant moms who've been observed so time is of the essence. Catching them all may take a while.

Please give what you can to help cover the costs of trapping, transportation to spay/neuter appointments, overnight care, feeding and their humane return.

The cost to spay/neuter is around $33 per cat. The other costs, who knows.?.

All funds collected will go to help the Mare Island ferals.

Thanks animal friends, for your kindness and support.

Latest Update

Hi friends and supporters of the Mare Island colony. Its been a long time since we've chatted. Here's the latest. The Mare Island colony needed insurance for TNR to happen on its turf so it is now being trapped by Marin Humane Society, who has the experience and the insurance necessary to move forward with TNR there. The remaining plumfunds generated here (abt $900) will be divided up and given to repay the caregivers who cared for the colony and rescued kittens for the past months w/food, medications for the kittens & cats, flea treatments, vet visits, trapping supplies, litter & socialization + toys, etc. All the stuff that's paid for by animal rescuers (everywhere) that goes without repayment while other of their own life's self care needs fall by the wayside. Your support helps them continue on to the next cat colony. Friends - there is an issue with feral cat colonies in Vallejo. We can use your help doing TNR if you can spare the time. Get in touch. 707-805-2009 JH

Hi everyone, Update: Overnight we trapped a previously TNRed cat and a opossum. Which leads us to this: If you or someone you know is feeding the Mare Island site cats, please refrain from feeding the cats while we are trapping. We are in the process of putting signs up around the area to let neighbors know what we are doing and why we need the additional feeding to stop. In other news: We are now $600 away from our goal and have 4 days left (woot)! Please keep sharing this plumfund and we thank you for your support! Meow!

Hi everyone, Great meeting tonight with the TNR team and we also have some new donations which we truly love and appreciate! So many of you have stepped up for the cats. Its inspiring to know you care as much as we do and we are in this together. We are hoping that our TNR efforts are successful this week and we can report back to you with some happy kitten and cat stories. Stay tuned!

Hi everyone, TGIF! Trapping has begun again! We caught who we lovingly call "Frak" of "Frik and Frak" the kittens who resemble bookends every time we roll up on site. Both are always together sitting by the building and playing in the sun. With your help (thank you) we could possibly catch Frik tonight! Meanwhile, Frak is a little sickly. Once again showing us all how its best to do TNR here, get these cats spayed/neutered ASAP, and the kittens into care. So, please keep sharing and caring. It means everything to us and the Mare Island cats. Meow!

Hi everyone, Just writing a short addendum to the last update... Have a look at the photo. This kitten was trapped last night on Mare Island and immediately rushed to rehab. This kitten is the reason why we don't want feral females to have babies. This kitten has a list of issues but is getting the best care possible. This kitten deserves a better life. Thank you for your help with this project. Because of you we can and will continue. So far we have spayed 4 females and 7 kittens are in care from Mare Island. That makes 11 cats caught since last Friday. We (and the cats) consider that successful. We all thank you.

Hi everyone! Just want to update you on how things are going with our project. We have stopped trapping for the week. We've been asked by the property managers on Mare Island to only trap over the weekends and we will comply. We just had 4 feral females spayed in Vacaville. So there has been a lot of driving back and forth twice a day to drop off and pick up cats. But we gotta do what we gotta do, right? Considering in 4 years, one female cat and her offspring can amount to 20,000 kittens. Yes, you read that correctly. Twenty thousand! Check out the graphic attached and let that sink in. Anyway, the kittens we've rescued so far...some are doing very well. Some were very sick when they were trapped. But they are in good hands being cared for. We are accepting your thoughts and prayers and of course loving donations to keep up this momentum when next weekend rolls around and we get back to trapping. Meow! xo

Hi everyone! Sunday Funday! We trap tonight! And because there are so many more cats and kittens on Mare Island to get into spay/neuter and rescue, we have done 2 things. (1.) We extended the deadline for the fundraiser and (2.) we bumped up the goal amount to $2500. Because of YOU we have reached our first goal of $1200, just today! OMG! You did that in less than a week. Give yourself a big hug. What an amazing bunch of caring humans you all are! Lets bond together, do all we can and SAVE the rest of them. We will keep trapping. We need for you to keep sharing and caring. Thank you - Meow. xo

Oops, The photo of the teeny sickly crusted eye kitten didn't attach to the last update so this is a special update just to share this kitten with you. Have a close look at the photo. This way, you know WHY we are doing this trapping and spay/neuter work, together as a community. Thanks to all of you, this little one is being treated & will be ok. Meow. xo

Hi everyone, So here's your latest update. Please have a look at the kitten in this photo. Its eyes are completely crusted closed and cant see. Its a pretty sick little baby kitten who needs help. It was trapped on Saturday morning & is being treated right now. So if anyone asks you why you are helping...show them this photo. This is why we trap. This is we spay and neuter. This is why we have to intervene. This is why your support matters. YES! It would be wonderful to be able to go about our lives without caring, but since you have a heart and gave to this fund we will keep sharing how your money is being used to help the Mare Island cats and kittens....they would thank you if they could. We are ALL in this together. ~ JH

Hi everyone! Really sorry for the delay in updates we've been very busy trapping and getting the cats to treatment & the littlest ones into rescue. Speaking of which, this little orange kitten was trapped at a SECOND SITE on the island along with Mommy Cat! Mommy goes to PAWSH in Vacaville on Monday to get the spay and neuter treatment and baby will go to rescue and will be up for adoption. There are quite a few more updates for today so stay tuned and thank you for your continued love and support, friends! xo JH

Hi everyone! Here's your update... We just trapped this feral furbaby for a TNR appointment to be examined, vaccinated, spay/neutered, recovered then returned. That makes 5 kittens/cats we've managed to trap since last night at 6pm. With your help, its working. Keep sharing and caring, Meow! xo

Hi everyone! And yet more donations come in for the Mare Island cats....meowwwww to all of you for caring! Here's the update you've been waiting for... We caught 2 cute and fuzzy feral kittens (teenagers) overnight and they are currently in route to their appointments to be examined, vaccinated, spay/neutered, ear tipped and into recovery. When they are both feeling well enough to go home they will be taken back to Mare Island and set free. Yipee! More to come...

Hi everyone! First we would like to say thank you for all of the generous donations to help the Mare Island cat colony to get TNRed and the little ones, hopefully into adoption. Good news! We got ONE kitten last night! We used the drop trap to lure it in and snap! Captured and safe! We seem to think that this one tiny back and white kitten is adoptable, in time, so stay tuned for its progress. We placed 16 other traps on the property around sunset last night and are going back this morning (right now) to collect the traps before sunrise. We did take some pics but are having a tough time uploading them this morning. Stay tuned!
