Fernando L. Diaz-Ball was a storyteller, fixer-upper and musician. He was the best dad in the whole wide world. He loved and supported his kids, raised me and my sister, and was my grandma’s caregiver until her death in 2015. During his last few years, he sadly succumbed to dementia.
For years he and my grandma dreamt of going back home to Puerto Rico, but financial, health and other issues kept them away. We want to give him and Nana their homecoming dream and take them back to Puerto Rico. The funeral will be hosted near his hometown of Santurce, Puerto Rico.
However, my sister, Mom and I live in different states, so we need your help. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting your donations toward funeral costs, which total almost $6,000.

Hola! An update to let y’all know how things are going right now. We were able to pick up the urn, thanks to you all. More than half of the money needed to pay off the urn was donated directly to the funeral home and the rest came from you. So a heartfelt thank you. We are looking for flights and hotel accommodations for the trip to Puerto Rico. Our trip there will represent my grandparents homecoming. We will return them to their favorite places on the island. They always spoke of going back, but were never able. Will you help us spread the word? Next steps: Our goal is to raise the first $2,000 to get the flights then we will look for a hotel or Airbnb. All we ask is your help sharing this link to see how much we can raise by July. Thanks so so much, from the bottom of our hearts. 💖

We just got Nani back home. Thanks to all of you who made this possible. As soon as I have the details for the small gathering in El Paso I’ll let everyone know. Then, we will take him back home. Hugs and love a todos! 💖

All, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’ve successfully raised enough to pay the cremation (one donation was directly to the funeral home). Because of you we are now able to pick up his urn. Thank you for making this possible. We are still raising money toward travel costs to take Nani and Nana back to Puerto Rico, which would include air fare and hotel/Airbnb. Times like these are difficult and you made this part easier to handle. Mil gracias. ✨🙏🏼✨ Fernando Diaz-Ball was so loved. We will post dates for his service, which will be on June 23 in El Paso, for those who wish to attend.

Got off the phone with the funeral director and we were able to bring the price down! We now only owe $1,105 toward the cremation, which means we’re closer to being able to reunite my grandparents. We chose matching cherry boxes and we will take those to Puerto Rico. Thank you so so much to everyone who’s dipped into their own pockets to help. Your contributions are so valued. 💛

Hola a todos, first a huge, heartfelt thank you for helping our family with funeral expenses. We got word from the funeral home that his cremation must be paid in full in order for us to pick up his urn. Will you help us spread the word? Even if we don’t reach the $5K goal, we hope to have the $1,911 to pay the funeral home. Thanks so much for your love. Un abrazo!
