For 3 years Simran(Ren) has been suffering from excruciating and constant abdominal & pelvic pain; the result of injury that was inflicted to her bladder and uterus; PTSD, narcoleptic episodes, extreme memory loss. She is no longer able to walk on her own due to the pain it entails, and cannot be left alone. Her husband, Steven, is her sole caretaker, caring for her in every possible way: he carries her to and from the bathroom every day, clothes her, feeds her, and bathes her all while he himself is a disabled vet with severe physical disabilities as well.

Last year Ren was able to participate in a clinical trial for a spinal implant that gave her enough pain relief to start physical therapy. Unfortunately, it had to be removed due to infection, and the surgeon has cleared her for re-implantation, but surgery dates have been pushed back because of insurance complications. They have already spent nearly $40,000 on medical expenses and have waited 3 years to reach out for the help of friends and family.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Latest Update

We want to give a big thank you to everyone who has been giving their love, thoughts, and prayers to us! Ren’s surgery in October was a success, and was even able to alleviate some of her abdominal pain! She was able to begin some very light Occupational and Physical therapy, but with her left leg being completely numb, and the extreme pain even attempting to move her legs causes, she couldn't do nearly as much as she wanted to. Although the surgery was a success, the pain in her lower back, pelvis, and head are still very excruciating, some of which has even worsened. Along with the debilitating pain, Ren still dissociates and passes out just as frequently as she did before surgery. To make matters worse, we had to spend the holidays back in the hospital from December 24th until the 27th for emergent repair of some torn internal sutures and treatment for sepsis. Everything went perfectly, but it does mean she has that much longer to go before recovering, all while enduring more pain

POTENTIAL GOOD NEWS THOUGH This October, Ren is scheduled for a hysterectomy & excision surgery with Dr. Robinson, an excision specialist, to address some severe uterus, bladder and other issues (unfortunately yet another surgery insurance doesn’t readily cover, so we need ALLLL the prayers, good wishes, love and support we can get!❤️) Once Ren has had that surgery and has recovered, we found a Maryland State Medicaid surgeon (who recently transferred from Walter Reed) that would be able to re-implant the spinal nerve stimulator (DRG device). We would still have to come up with the surgeon and OR fees, but knowing that the insurance would approve it and cover a bit of the cost is BEYOND WONDERFUL! After speaking with Dr. Jacobs we are more hopeful for Ren’s improvement! We apologize for taking so long to post an update, but it’s been incredibly hectic trying to get Ren proper care❤️ THANK YOU❤️
