First and foremost the family would like to thank everyone who has so graciously and generously already given to the Herman family during this time of need. The outpouring of support, love, prayers and financial donations has been unbelievable! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Family, friends and the Fayette Community have been amazing. This is one of those times where we are so thankful to be from our small town.
This page has been started because we have had family and friends from out of town ask if there is a way they can donate to the Herman family. Donations are not expected from anyone but we realize that people want to help and please know each dollar given is greatly appreciated.
Allie's story:
In the middle of volleyball season in October, Allie began complaining of soreness and aching in her knee. When basketball season rolled around, Allie was still experiencing discomfort so she saw the family doctor to have it checked. There she had an x-ray and MRI done, which determined she had a fracture and she left in crutches. On Thanksgiving day, the pain had become so severe in Allie's knee that she was taken to the emergency room. As each day passed thereafter, the pain got worse and worse. At this point, Allie was referred to a specialist in Columbus.
On December 4th, Allie had a biopsy on her knee and it confirmed the Hermans' worst fear. There was a tumor where her growth plate below her knee and her tibia meet. After countless tests, Allie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. In Allie's case the pain in her knee was caused from a tumor (sarcoma) that is attached to her bone.
Allie's cancer is curable, but she will undergo an extensive 10 month treatment plan. This plan will consist of chemotherapy and two surgeries. Right now, Allie's treatments are at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.
The money received from this fund will be used to help alleviate the financial burden of unexpected medical bills and travel expenses that are coming with this diagnosis. Please continue supporting the Hermans through prayer as they embark on this long, hard, and scary journey.
