The beginning of August my mom just thought she had the flu. After 5 days of stomach pain and an increasing temperature along with vomitting, she asked me to take her to the ER. She presented with a fever of 102.8, nausea and horrible pain in her lower abdomen. They discovered an absess on her colon and a raging infection. She was immediately admitted to the hospital for 3 days and then released, with the absess twice the size. The doctor's needed to get her infection under control before they could risk surgery. The problem was that she has NO insurance.

Due to countless errors in her marketplace application, they cancelled her insurance. She's been fighting them ever since to get in reinstated but they say she has no recourse.

The infection is finally subsiding and she needs a colon resection but again has hit barriers because she has NO insurance.

The hospital has agreed to do the surgery for $12,500 cash up front. No credit cards, no loans, no payment plan. The other option is a $500 good faith deposit and payments over the next 4 years totaling $95,000.

My mom has always given to others, helping them when they need it most. When I was born, she started a non-profit and ran it for 13 years helping thousands of children. She's always there to volunteer in our local community and help those in need.

Now, she needs help. There are still outstanding medical bills in the tens of thousands from the ER visit, hospitalization, heavy antibiotics and multiple CT scans - but the most pressing is the need for surgery.

To avoid a permanent colostomy, she needs the surgery in the next few weeks and we need to raise the money for her to get that surgery.

If you know my mom, you know how generous and helpful she has been to so many and will always continue to be.

I am asking for your help to get her the help she needs.

Thank you.

Latest Update

Surgery was successful!!! Surgery ended up being a bit more extensive than originally thought but surgeon was able to do the colon resection without a temporary or permanent colostomy. Mom is back home now and working on recovery. Full recovery time is estimated to be 4 - 6 months. Thank you all for your support, cards and prayers. It means the world to my mom and I.
