UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who has donated! We have a tentative surgery date in October, but if the funds are ready and a spot opens up, she'll be able to get the surgery sooner. We're hoping to get to $10,000 this month. Any little bit helps!

I would like to start by saying... I post a lot of stuff on multiple platforms about my silly opinions and what's going on in this country, but this is my family, and this was the hardest yet easiest thing I'll ever post. Hard because my aunt and family are going through hell, but easy because there's nothing I wouldn't do for this woman. And my aunt truly is Wonder Woman. She is THE MOST caring, kind, and giving person I have EVER known...unless you speak ill of Chuck Norris. She helped move me to New York, she's supported me financially in the past, and she kills the many wasps that hunt me in her backyard. I mean she introduced me to The Six Million Dollar Man...what a wonderful woman!

My aunt was born with a hiatal hernia that has plagued her all of her life, causing several other severe complications. After several procedures and exhausting all other options, my aunt's insurance denied to cover the completely necessary Roux-en-Y surgery she needs to repair her large hiatal hernia this past February. After several rounds of appeals since then, and her doctors pleading with the insurance company to cover the cost of this expensive surgery, my aunt and uncle were at a loss. (As I'm sure we all would be as tax-paying, small business-owning Americans who pay over $3,000 a month for insurance that isn't covering anything.)

I don't understand most of the words I just typed, because I produce television shows for a living and only know medical jargon from Grey's Anatomy. But what I do know, is that this story is not surprising, it's not uncommon, and I won't have it. It's maddening to try to understand how this could happen in this country. But as we young, scrappy, and hungry Americans are prone to do...we're finding another way.

They can't schedule the surgery until they have the necessary funds, so I'm hoping we can raise a bit of the required amount in the next few weeks. I completely understand that these requests, unfortunately, get circulated a lot and this is an insane amount of money, but I am asking that if you can spare any small amount - I would be grateful beyond words. Either that or help me get Mark Wahlberg to meet her...or Chuck Norris...either works.

Please let me know if you have any questions at all. This was described by the doctor as a "life or death" situation which is so scary, and I don't really know where these doctors learn to communicate...it's definitely not from Grey's Anatomy.
