My dad retired in May 1985 after over 30 yrs as a Civil Servant with EDD. My parents were looking forward to their retirement years in Paradise to enjoy the quiet life after raising two children in the busy city of Los Angeles. The thing they cherished most was spending time with family and friends in the quaint town of Paradise, California. They gave back to their community by providing blankets for children in need and cancer patients and were active in the Masonic Lodge. Dad even started a band called the Appleridge Quintet to keep alive the Big Band Era and Dance Music in his community. After 33 yrs their lives were suddenly changed by the Paradise fire. Now at 90 and 95 they are finding themselves having to start over.

Thank you to all who have opened your hearts to help my parents. Many blessings to you all.

Saw the devastation in person and words just can't describe it. The site was just gut wrenching and heart breaking to say the least. Mom went to see for closure and dad just couldn't come to terms with seeing it. He has come to terms that Paradise is no longer is home. Otherwise, they are doing well and we are taking one day at a time, Or as my dad often coined the phrase, "taking on crisis at a time".

Dad and mom are coming to terms with the loss of their home. The real impact we have been told will be felt when they are finally allowed to see the chard remains of their life in Paradise. But, for now, we have been able to puchase clothes, a heating blanket and bedding, incidentals and take care of some of their personal needs. Our family wishes to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and encouragement.
