Hello, friends!

I’m Claude-Anne. I am underemployed and at risk of losing housing. Due to a lost/stolen paycheck, I could not pay the rest of my rent yesterday. For about a month, I have only been employed 10-13 hours a week. My laptop’s battery died a couple of months ago and I have been unable to afford the fix ($75), so I haven’t been able to update my resumé. I’ve been job searching on foot, with little result. I face eviction if I don’t pay $345 back rent by 8/19, plus $300 in utilities for August and July.

I have a plan, but I need help. Once the immediate bills get paid, I can fix my laptop and look for long-term work. Meanwhile, I plan to work as a bike courier. I found a bike and once I purchase it, I need to buy gear to make the work safe and efficient. I’m set up with some delivery companies so I can start working as soon as I buy the gear. I have about two more months of nice weather before rain is an issue.

I really need this push so I don’t end up on the streets. I’ve been homeless before and kept the looming possibility at bay for 10 years. I can’t go back.

Latest Update

They say comedy is tragedy + time. I had to laugh at today. Before I explain, let me catch you up. I’ve been able to get a few extra shifts at my part time job this week in addition to a couple of days interior painting for a kind acquaintance. That allowed me to get some groceries and get the bicycle serviced that I was able to make my first payment on thanks to your generosity. I was also able to pay the remainder of my rent so, thank you! Last week I took the bike in to get serviced. It needed the crank hub to be cleaned up, the wheels to be trued and a couple of other measures to get it road-ready. Including the u-lock that was on sale, the total cost was $220. I picked her up today. She was looking so cute and shiny I had to take her for a spin. I ended up at a restaurant that I knew was hiring. After I filled out the application and had a snack I came out to find her as pictured. Sweet with a very bitter aftertaste but I refuse to give up. -CA

Hello, friends! I tweaked a little and added to the wishlist. I’ve itemized my needs and whittled down the pledge option. I realized the wishlist is a little confusing so, for the sake of clarity, the wishlist is actually liquid and symbolic rather than the purchase and gifting of an item. Once funds are received, they will go toward my priority item, late rent/late fee. My next priority is my phone bill. The sad truth is, I’d be completely useless with out this phone. Following the phone bill, my priority is the laptop battery. It’ll only take me 15 minutes to update my resume once I get that running. Then I’ll be able to real job-hunting. From there, it will depend on if/when funds come in. It takes a bit of juggling to keep the lights on, the fridge stocked, and the rent paid. I’m hoping to get the bike delivery gear next so I can get to working during this lovely sunshine. Thank you all for your support and shedding light at the end of the very dark tunnel.
