Hello friends,

(UPDATE: I've managed to bring down the cost of my trip to around $3,500 after finding a friend to sublease my room and a cheaper plane ticket for $1k. )

As many of you know , I love seeing the world from the seat of my bike! For the last 25 years I've been doing bike tours in different parts of the US and the rest of the planet. This fall I am planning on riding for two months in Madagascar. Madagascar is the 4th largest island in the world and is located off the coast of SE Africa. Culturally, 90% of people are Malagasy, with historical ties to Southeast Asia. 75% of the species there cannot be found anywhere else in the world and it's the only place you can see lemurs! It will be my first time, and my first bike trip, in Africa and I'm both excited and nervous.

In 25 years of bike touring I've never done a fund raiser but after doing some research and thinking, I realized that I would need to raise some money to defray costs. The plane ticket alone will run me around $1,000. I would also be taking two months off of work and having to cover my rent if I cannot find someone to sublet my room. Once I get to Madagascar food and housing will be cheap. In all , I'm trying to raise up to $3,500 for this trip ($2,000 for plane ticket and baggage (the bike and gear), up to $1,000 for a bike and gear, and $500 to cover my rent and utilities while I'm gone.)

Latest Update

UPDATE: I've managed to bring down the cost of my trip to around $4,000 after finding a friend to sublease my room and a cheaper plane ticket for $1k.
