Cole is a 5 1/2 year old budding astronomer and entomologist. Cole loves to be outside and participate in any activity in the community he can.
Cole has gone through a medical journey that has been long and intense. He was diagnosed the day before his second birthday with Mitochondrial Disease. He’s spent months at a time in the hospital and has a special iv in his heart to deliver hydration and nutrition, feeding tubes in his stomach and intestines to deliver medications and additional nutrition. He wears a Dexcom that monitors his blood sugars every 5 minutes to help alert to the rapid, dangerous lows he experiences. He has a seizure disorder and has to be monitored constantly for seizure activity. Along with his many other medical diagnosis, he was also diagnosed with Autism and Anxiety at the age of 3. He has 34 specialists across 2 major children’s hospitals and 4 therapies that he receives every single week.
Despite all of this, he is a happy little boy who loves life and learning. He lives with his Mom, Victoria, and Step-Father Ryan and his Dad, Jason, lives just down the road.
COVID has been hard on everyone, but Cole has been isolated since 2019 and even had to be held from school this year due to an inability to protect him. He’s missed out on so much, but his doctors say now is the time to get him back out and enjoying some well-deserved kid time since he’s vaccinated and recently beat COVID.
Cole has been in the process of receiving a wish from Make A Wish for over 2 years, but it’s repeatedly fallen through for a variety of reasons. Most recently, he wished to go to Disney and was told because he requires nursing, he is unable to receive his wish. He will be removed from consideration and will have to reapply after the pandemic is over and the rules have changed, which could be a very long time from now.
He has been so excited about this trip and has talked about it every day. He dreams of what it might be like to meet his favorite characters, build a light saber, see the fireworks, and ride his first rides. He even told me that he “can’t wait to people again and have fun”. I can’t even fathom how I will sit him down again and tell him that for the third time, his wish has been taken away after it was in process.
He has a window of opportunity to be a kid and experience joy and magic without worrying about the medical side of things and it would mean everything to me as his Mom to give him this opportunity.
It would be life-changing for him to break away from the day-to-day medical overload and experience everything that only Disney can give.
Your consideration means everything to us. Thank you.
