Hello everyone.
My name is Camila (she/her) and I am a youth activist from Mexico.
I was recently selected to be a part of the GYDI International Youth Delegation in the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), which will be held in Scotland from the 31st of October to the 12th of November 2021. COP26 will gather civil society observers, country delegates, media representatives, corporate actors and other key stakeholders to advance global efforts to address the climate crisis.
On the 9th of August 2021, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its assessment report, warning about the threats posed by the climate crisis and, unfortunately, predicting a bleak future for humanity. Nonetheless, we still have a chance to soften the blow: our governments must take immediate collective action to mitigate and adapt to the crisis and its effects. Consequently, COP26 is predicted to be the most important climate conference since the 2015 Paris Agreement: its outcomes are decisive for the future of our planet and humanity’s survival.
COP26 President, Alok Sharma, has promised it will be the 'most inclusive COP ever', however, the excessively high costs for civil society actors from the Global South to travel to and stay in Scotland, especially during a global pandemic, will potentially hinder our attendance. Because of this, COP26 will see an underrepresentation of the countries and peoples that are disproportionately threatened by climate change.
With humility, I request your financial support to facilitate my attendance at COP26 which will ensure that Global South environmental youth actors have a seat at the decision-making table. Your support will cover the flights from and to Mexico, as well as food and accommodation. I would be extremely grateful for your generosity. Stay safe and stay sustainable!
Yours truly,
Camila

Hola a todxs,
Camila
