Fritz and Sandy will be embarking on a European voyage this fall. They will be visiting Iceland where Fritz spent time at radar installations while he was in the US Air Force. They will then be heading to Denmark where Fritz has tracked down the very church his Great Grandparents were baptized in. They will then move on to Germany to explore Sandy’s German roots in Bavaria. Finally, they will be fulfilling a bucket list item by going to Ireland.
In Iceland they will be visiting Reykjavik and taking a tour to see the Gullfoss or the "Golden Falls" that may be Iceland's most popular waterfall, with a 105 foot drop. They will also visit Geysir Hot Spring Area which is highly active with boiling mud pits, exploding geysers and the lively Strokkur, which spouts water 100 feet into the air every few minutes. The will then visit Þingvellir National Park which has a dramatic landscape formed as a result of sitting along the border between the North American and European tectonic plates, where you can stand on 2 continents at the same time. They will also see Kerið volcano crater, the sulfa fields of Krýsuvík, and take a boat ride among glaciers on the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and numerous waterfalls.
In Denmark, they will visit Copenhagen and go to Stege where the Stege Kirke is located. This should be a very personal moment for Fritz, as he said he had to look at each church in Denmark to match it to an old black & white photo he had.
In Germany, they will visit Munich, take a tour to visit many castles as well as the most famous of them all which was an inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle – Neuschwanstein, and the Austrian town made famous by Sound of Music - Salzburg.
Finally in Ireland, they will visit Dublin, take a tour to visit several ancient castles, for sure the Blarney Castle and kiss the Blarney Stone, Burren & Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, and see parts of the Wild Atlantic Way.
Cannot wait until they get back to see the pictures and hear the stories…
