Dear family and friends,

I've been trying to think of what to say for days now, but time is running out.

I’m sharing Madison's story with you because she desperately needs your help.

Madison is my 2-year old Labradoodle and I have been training her as my service dog to help me with some of my life challenges. She is wonderfully suited for this! Her father and several of her litter mates are service dogs so it’s in her genes. She has a very sweet personality, loves getting dressed up in costumes, posing for the camera, and is super playful. She watches TV and will bark at other animals she sees on it. She also loves to run and visit with her horse friend, Harry, next door. She is gentle, attentive, and amazingly in tune with me and whatever I might need at the time. For example, I can get so hyper-focused on a project that I forget to eat, and Madison will stop me with a soft “woof” and look directly into my eyes to remind me to stop and eat. Or, sometimes, when I stress out about something she’ll come sit right next to me, demand that I stop what I’m doing to give her some love and attention, because she knows it helps me to wind back down and relax. Needless to say, my sweet little Maddie is a very special and unique part of our family.

A few months ago, Maddie suddenly started limping heavily on her right front leg. Thinking she may have pulled a muscle I waited a couple of days to see if she would recover, but she didn’t. She continued to limp, the swelling around her elbow didn’t go down and she was in pain. When I took her in to see her doctor she took x-rays and the radiologist told us it could be a couple different things but that the x-rays were inconclusive.

At this point Dr. Hoover referred us to Summit Veterinary Referral in Tacoma, the surgeons that she uses for her own pets. We were completely disheartened when they said she would have to go on to a waiting list and couldn't be seen until April of 2021! Thankfully when the specialists reviewed her x-rays, something they saw in them caused them great concern and they expedited her appointment. They took new x-rays, which were frustratingly inconclusive again. The doctor was highly concerned that it could be cancer but the only way to tell is to do a bone biopsy.

This is why Maddie needs your immediate support.

The estimate they have given us for the biopsy and the accompanying tests they will need to do is $1,493.85. This sent waves of panic through us! We are barely making ends meet right now and simply don’t have that kind of money available in such a short amount of time. This is why we are asking for your support for "Medical Help For Madison".

We are so very grateful to Cascade Animal Protection Society in Sumner, Washington for their very generous donation of $751.75, but we still need to raise almost $750 to cover their base estimate. They told us to prepare for the strong possibility that she will need surgery of some sort. The specialist said that if it is indeed bone cancer, it metastasizes quickly and hopefully it will be caught in time to fix it in whatever way possible, even if it means amputating her leg to save her life.

Any a small amount you can help with will be deeply appreciated, and make a huge difference. Your gift will be put to work immediately.

All funds will be used strictly for her medical needs. Even if it’s only $.50 or $1, every little bit will help because small amounts add up!

I will be posting updates on this site.

I will also be posting updates on my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/tessalfm

We would appreciate it if you would share this to your circles of friend yo help us get the word out. We are asking for a miracle, both in getting the funds together and for Madison’s life.

Thank you so very, very much for your prayers and support,

from Madison, Tessa, and Michael

  • Muriel G. Long3 years ago I love Madison. Tessa stayed one summer with me in AZ with Madison and she was so well-behaved, loving, and developed a love affair with Jamison, the next door Golden. It was so cute to watch them together kissing each other. Good Luck, Madison. You are in my prayers.🙏🙏
