We are trying to get to the Blue Ridge High School Scholarship Night next week in Arizona. Neil and I would like to go and award scholarships in-person to my brother Tom's students. It means a lot to us. Funds received would be used for gas and a one-night's stay in a modest hotel in Show Low Arizona. Any additional funds received would be added to the Tom Kean Memorial Fund which will award select students for three more years. Our current goal is to raise $250 in 72 hours. Deadline is 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 26th.
We've chosen the scholarship candidates for 2019. They're wonderful, talented, hard-working young people. Tom would be proud. We look forward to meeting them.
About Tom: On November 16, 2017, we lost our beloved Tom Kean - a math teacher, musician, mentor, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He truly was a "Giant of Men", strongly influencing and supporting the Blue Ridge High School community in Lakeside, AZ.
Tom was committed to excellence from his students, fellow teachers and administrators. He raised everyone to a higher level. He gave so much. Now we would like to give back to him, to the students he cared so much about.
In order to continue his impact on his students and his Blue Ridge family, we have established the Tom Kean Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund will award scholarships to Blue Ridge High seniors to support their pursuit of higher education. We hope this will serve as a lasting reminder to the Lakeside community of Tom's commitment to excellence, as well as his fierce principles and love for education.
As a family, we want to encourage all students to achieve their potential, because we believe in it, and most importantly, because that is how Tom would have wanted it.
This scholarship fund will be managed by the Blue Ridge Scholarship Fund, Inc. (non-profit tax-exempt IRS #86-0450316) which was established in 1983 to coordinate the distribution of private scholarships to graduates of Blue Ridge High School. Additional 2019 donations to the Plumfund campaign beyond the $250 travel expenses will go to the Blue Ridge Scholarship Fund in Tom's memory.
Thank you for your contribution. We are thrilled and honored to provide this as a place for people who cared about Tom to give back, support excellence, and make a difference in the lives of students moving forward into the future.
