Started by: Nakisha Barboza
In Spring 2018, Nakisha Baboza & Jason Rebeiro had watched their youngest child graduate from high school and began to plan for their future. But a few short weeks after this memorable day, Nakisha was stricken with abdominal pain and was ultimately diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She needed emergency surgery and was advised to start chemo.
Nakisha and Jason have always practiced a more holistic approach when it comes to their own health and the health of their children. They understand that the body has a way of repairing itself when aligned and nourished. Given the side effects and toxic effects of chemotherapy, Nakisha bravely decided that she would seek alternative treatments for the cancer.
In August 2018 Nakisha started therapy and lifestyle changes at Utopia Wellness, an alternative center that treats people with cancer. At Utopia, they understand that the entire body needs to be cared for while in such a fragile state.
Nakisha underwent their program:
Fortify- with hydration and IV nutrients
Clarify- the mind, body, and soul
Detoxify- the body by eliminating organ and lymphatic congestion preventing her body from doing what it has the capability of doing.
Modify- any lifestyle changes that could be contributing.
Alkalize- the body where disease can not thrive
Oxygenize- revitalizing depleted and overworked organs.
She felt AMAZING! She continued to work and enjoy activities she'd always loved! Cancer was just another part of her story to tell one day!
As you may suspect Jason was working tirelessly during that time to ensure that she would be able to take advantage of all that Utopia had to offer. He had also become Nakisha's caregiver, driving her to appointments, providing her with the best foods, encouraging her to work out, all while creating experiences with the family.
In January 2020, Nakisha experienced a bowel obstruction and they decided to relocate back to their hometown of New Bedford, MA where they would have access to some of the greatest oncologists in Boston, MA. Upon meeting with those oncologists she was advised to start chemotherapy and radiation if she hoped for any chance of survival. Despite how well she had felt doing the costly alternative treatments for the 18 months, she elected to begin chemo and radiation.
Upon beginning chemo, Nakisha immediately began to feel the negative effects to her body. She could no longer eat food, had little energy, and had an indwelling line put in so she could get her medications and nutrients. Despite the rough days, Nakisha and Jason became first-time grandparents.
After again months of chemo and radiation at Brigham and Women's on a new growth on her scapula that popped up while in the hospital. Nakisha was told by her oncologists that her treatments were not working.
Jason, willing to do all that he could for the love of his life and partner of 25+ years, immediately booked a flight and brought Nakisha to the prestigious HOPE4CANCER center in Tijuana, Mexico. There she went both the cutting-edge cancer treatments along with many alternative therapies that were so beneficial to her quality of life after her diagnosis.
Nakisha also learned that the obstruction in her gut was never cancer. The doctors assumed it was, and put her through months of harsh treatment that could have been avoided with a minor surgery.
Nakisha is now back in Florida retrieving the original treatments that kept her healthy during the first years of her stage 4 diagnosis. The doctors that followed were amazed that she maintained a healthy condition after her initial diagnosis. She is back seeking to get her health back.
Nakisha & Jason could use your support. Upon their return to Fl. Nakisha will need to continue treatments, (some new) available to her. Jason will continue to care for her. Any amount will help.
