On Wednesday, November 4, 2020 a dear friend that is more like family to me received a phone call that no spouse ever wants to get. There had been a horrific accident and it was Dawn's husband Tommy that was horribly injured. Tommy was welding when a very heavy and large steel plate broke loose and came crashing down striking Tommy in the face and head region. He was knocked out and still cannot tell you what actually happened. 911 was called and EMS rushed him to MUSC. As Dawn arrived to the ER she was approached by staff as she wanted to see her husband thinking he had had another injury and he'd be back at it in a day or two, unfortunately that was not the case. She waited 3 hours to see him very briefly before they rushed him off to a very long and extensive emergency surgery. This surgery was to simply get him somewhat cleaned up and stabilized. Doctors have told her his face was pretty much shattered and she was fearful of the outcome. The pictures are pretty horrific and very graphic. Doctors told her he needed emergency surgery to repair his jaw that was broken in 3 places, 1/3 of his upper lip is completely gone, more than half of his teeth have been knocked out or broken, his eye socket is blown, his nose is broken and so much more. The doctors did an emergency surgery and placed metal plates in his jaw to repair the breaks, they have also wired his jaw shut and closed up many of the gaping wounds. This was the first of many surgeries. He will need many more to fix everything that is broken and shattered. He will need extensive plastic surgery to bring him back to the man he use to be as well as multiple dental surgeries to implant teeth so that he can eat solids. He has had to have a trach tube put in and is being fed through a tube. This family did not ask for this to happen nor did they ever expect this. Times are tough for everyone these days but this family is now really going to suffer. There are children involved and Tommy loves his children and would not want to see them suffer. As Tommy lays in ICU his main worry is how they will survive and be able to pay bills to have the basic needs, roof, water, electric. The medical bills are multiplying every minute. Dawn is having to leave her husband each day to go home so she can work so that there is some income coming in. She is stressed each time she leaves not knowing what could happen to her husband while she is away. Not only is she working to keep the family and household afloat but the parking fees downtown aren't easy on the pocket either.
If we can share this and help this family out I know they would be eternally grateful. This is a caring, loving, good family. They are the help your neighbor kind of family. If its in your heart to help them monetarily so that they can continue to have a home and not become homeless please do so. If you cannot then please say a prayer for them and share this with your friends. This family would NEVER ask for help like this so I have taken it upon myself to be a voice for them. At times like this pride cannot get in the way. They genuinely have to understand that times like these it takes a village. This family needs a blessing! Can you help them. Any amount helps, every $ counts.
I live by doing for others. Helping others and doing for others will earn you so much more in Gods house.
