After several tests Journey has been diagnosed with a Teratoma tumor that needs a complex surgery to remove it because of it's location and size. Journey will be in the hospital for several weeks and her family needs our help. They had to travel several hours from home to get her care which means Dad can't get to work and they need lodging and food while there. This fund is to help provide financial help for the family for while they get Journey the care she needs.

Latest Update

Journey has been inpatient for 18 days. Today has been a very big day already. Her chest tubes were removed, her arterial line came out and she was taken off of oxygen. It’s day three post-op and she still has a serious lung collapse that we’re working to resolve with a lot of hard work! Today she walked the furthest she has walked in almost three weeks even after a very long night and little energy. The perseverance and strength that this child possesses never ceases to amaze us. Kris and our three other girls are at an extended stay hotel not far from the hospital here in Gainesville. Recovery will be a lengthy process but if there’s one thing our family knows how to do together it’s the hard things. Thank you to everyone who has supported us with love and prayer. And a huge thanks to those of you who have been so incredibly generous with contributions and continue to share our link. This fund deposits daily into our account an

This fund deposits daily into our account is being used for gas and food. We couldn’t do this without your support and we are so incredibly grateful.

From Tara: We’ve learned our thirteen year old daughter Journey has a large teratoma in her chest wall. It’s stuck to her pericardium (the sack around her heart) and involved with the major blood vessels supplying blood to her heart and from her heart to her lung. Her left lung is collapsed from a pleural effusion (fluid in the lining). They drained half a liter of that fluid from around her lung on Monday and biopsied both the fluid and the tumor. We were hoping to shrink the mass with chemo before surgery to make the resection procedure safer. However, today we learned the tumor is benign which is obviously better in the long run but makes things a bit trickier for her surgical team. We meet the pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon tomorrow who should be able to give us a surgery date at that time. We expect surgery to be within 1-2 weeks
