Tara is an amazing human being who has touched many many lives in her time on Earth. She recently suffered from both a serious viral infection that invaded her brain, together with a bacterial (staph) infection and has just come out of hospital, in Bali where she is currently living. She has a great medical team & neurologist and supportive friends and she is recovering slowly. Her total hospital bill is $3700 and many friends have expressed interest in donating to a fundraiser to help her out financially with her medical bills. Please donate what you can and share in your network or with people who know Tara and might like to help support her. Thank you and OM Shanti Shanti Shanti OM.

Latest Update

Tara is continuing to improve. I will take some photos of her and post them in the next few days. She is still not at her fundraising goal yet so please continue to share the fundraiser in groups and networks that know Tara. Thank you!

Tara keeps on getting better. She is walking daily and taking longer and longer walks. She is still not driving a motorbike - that is likely to be another month away, and for now is getting everywhere on foot. She is becoming part of the local community and stopping by to visit Liz each morning. Nice to have her in the village! She is taking care of a friend's garden while they are away and helping another friend pack and move, so getting back into her old self/life. Well, with new perspective! The goal is still $1000 away so please continue to share the fundraise in your groups and circles that know Tara. OM Shanti!

Tara had a check up today at Kasih Ibu and is doing well. She will move house tomorrow. She's getting more energy and spunk back, and is almost the same Tara we knew before! She's walking more and has more energy. Still will be a slow and steady recovery. Please continue to share this fundraiser in groups that know Tara and in your networks. She's not at the goal yet! Thanks.

Tara is continuing to improve. She has started doing her yoga practice again and is slowing getting back strength. She is doing twice daily walks around the village now. She still has some fatigue, which is not uncommon when the brain has been affected. She will move to her new place in Nyuh Kuning on Tuesday, so anyone wanting to visit after that day, please message Tara for her new whereabouts. With a recent contribution of $500, we're just over $1000 from the goal now! Please continue to share the fundraiser in your networks and in-groups that know Tara. Thanks.

Tara continues to improve, although she still tires easily. She finished her meds in a few days and moves home a few days after that. For anyone wanting to visit, she is at Robin's place until the 15th, then she shifts to a place on the other side of the soccer field, still in Nyuh Kuning. Please continue to share the fundraiser in your networks and with people and groups that know Tara. We're not at the goal yet! The good news is she doesn't get the credit card bill until the end of this month, so there is still time to donate. Please help support Tara and help her get back on her feet!

Tara continues to improve. While she is still staying at Ibu Robin's in Nyuh Kuning, she will be moving into a shared house nearby in the same village in under 2 weeks. She has started acupuncture treatment and will continue to get treatment as her health continues to improve. She's walking more and eating well and getting more cognition and memory back each day. Please stop by to visit if you live locally - she is enjoying having visitors. Please also continue to share the fundraise in your networks. Let's reach the goal by 6 October which is Tara's 65th birthday! 37 (3700) for 65!

Let's give her a memorable gift and show how much we appreciate having her in our lives! (Because she nearly wasn't....)

Tara continues to improve. She is back using her phone and laptop, sending long messages by SMS, FB and email, as her brain continues to recover from its ordeal. She will continue to be on anti-seizure medication for another week but then her doctor feels that she is healed enough to finish. Tara suffered several seizures as a result of her brain infection, however, hasn't had one for weeks since the infection started to clear up. She is continuing to live with people around her and this is really helping her to get back on her feet so she can consider living independently again. She has found a nice place to live, sharing a small house with a Balinese teenager - the family lives next door - with a Balinese friend living next door as well. She will be close to Bumi Sehat, the health centre, and can start walking over in the mornings for acupuncture treatment, which will continue to restore her to health. Thanks for all your support as she traverses the illness journey into wellness.

Tara continues to improve slowly . She saw her doctor on Friday who was very optimistic about her progress. She is no longer taking the antivirals or antibiotics and we are just healing her up now with Chinese herbs, healing foods and lots of love. She is starting to walk around the village and take longer walks but still gets tired easily. Next week she will start getting acupuncture treatments at Bumi Sehat to boost her recovery and help her immune system to recover. Just a reminder that her credit card will need to be paid in late October so the fundraising is ongoing, not quite at the halfway mark, so please continue to share in your networks and groups and circles that know Tara. Thank you for your support!

This fundraiser will be active until November so please continue to share in your networks and donate to help Tara. She has put most of her total hospital bill on her credit card, which will be due by late October. Hopefully, by then, the fundraiser amount will be close to or matching her bills! OM Shanti.

She is walking more, eating a lot, which is great as she lost weight, and she was thin to start with! She is walking daily and resting. She is active on Facebook and email, so please reach out to her on those channels. She cannot access her phone and so I'm going to have to get it reset by the techs so she can use her phone again. This means all contacts, messages & photos will be lost. If you can email your contact details to her, then she can put them in her phone when it's unlocked after tomorrow. Thanks!

Tara is still recovering slowly. She said that today for the first time, she felt her life force strengthen. So she is past the worst. She goes to see the Doctor next Friday for a post-release checkup. She will still have a ways to go to full health and she still needs help with paying her hospital bills, as it was all put on her credit card which will be due in October. Please continue to share the link to this fundraiser and ask friends to donate. The final amount was lower than originally thought, so the campaign is more than half way now!!

Elizabeth .... Did you receive my donation for Tara?? Did not see your acknowledgement on the PlumFund email updates. Joe L.

Tara was discharged from hospital today. She is walking slowly, and able to eat and drink well. Her doctor has given her a week's worth of medications, both anti viral and anti biotic, but feels that as long as Tara is staying with friends who can look after her, she doesn't need to keep staying in the hospital and can rest and recover at home. Tara is staying with friends in Nyuh Kuning village, near Ubud, where she will be for 1-2 weeks as she continues to recover.

I'm happy to report that the final hospital bill is $3700, not $5000, as we had feared. By the hospital giving the lower working-visa price, Tara's final bills will be lower. I've lowered the target of the fundraiser accordingly. Which means we're closer!!

Tara was walking around the hospital by herself when I arrived this morning. She is eating and drinking (and peeing and pooping) well. Yes, these are important milestones! She is still a bit fuzzy but replying to emails and FB messages. She appreciates all the love and support you are all sending her. The Doctor will release her tomorrow as she can now finish a course of oral antibiotics and doesn't need in-hospital care. She will be staying with friends in Nyuh Kuning near Ubud as she still can't walk far and needs to have people around, meals prepared etc.

Tara is eating and drinking and looking and feeling better. She is still weak and still has a little trouble focusing. She went for a walk today down the corridor in the hospital. I left her with crayons & coloured pencils & paper to draw. She is able to read and reply to emails now and check her FB. She still can't access her phone or remember that pesky password, so still best to email or FB message her. Tara is much better. I saw her this morning after breakfast and she told me she is eating and drinking by herself. She can take short assisted walks which the Dr has encouraged her to do to speed her healing. She is more alert & focussed, can talk almost normally, although her memory is still a bit patchy at times. She still can't access her phone but is reading and answering messages on Facebook and email, so best to contact her by those channels. She continues to improve, but still tires easily and needs a lot of rest. She will be on anti virals for another 5 days and they are really working well.

I saw Tara today - she ate a little soup and gruel (bubur) for lunch and went for a short, assisted walk in the hospital corridor. Her doctor is urging her to resume eating and drinking as normal and to start to get some exercise, to speed her recovery. Her mind is much clearer and she can speak at greater length, although she tires easily. She is currently on a regime of antivirals and improving daily. I'll post tomorrow with a new update on her condition.
