We're raising money to help ease the financial burden for our mother, who is also a friend, a wife and a grandmother of 10!

Mom had a severe heart attack and her heart function was only at 15%. After a procedure done in Sioux Falls she was flown to the UMN after a room opened up. They are holding off on procedures until they wean her off a few things. This could take days or weeks and multiple procedures may be needed. No matter what, she has a long road to recovery while in the ICU.

Latest Update

As of right now the team here at UMN plans to continue to run tests over the course of at least the next 24-48 hours to be sure everything keeps improving. The Intella pump (which is a temporary thing and not really needed per doc) will be slowly weaned off over the next few days to see how much work moms heart is actually doing. It will need to removed soon. They plan tpo continue the meds right now and see where her heart is at after weaning off the Intella. If another pump is required (all up in the air at this point) they will do a surgery/procedure to place a balloon pump. A balloon pump is not as good as an Intella but it is what is used for more long term, durable, and safe measures for helping with cardiac output. He is hoping that this will not be needed but only time will tell. This is just the beginning to a long string of things that will over time have to happen for recovery. Depending on how tests and healing goes over time she may need other surgical measures.

A new SWAN device was placed in moms heart through the neck this morning so that the doctors could continue to monitor both the blockages in the arteries and the leakage coming from her mitral valve. They adjusted her Intella pump which is what is controlling the blood flow in and out of her heart at this time. She is also on multiple medications to help with all the underlying issues going on such as keeping her blood pressure lower yet stable so the heart is not overtaxed and also 1 to help with the pumping. Her liver and kidney tests continue to improve but her sodium level is still low. The Sioux Falls doctors did a good job of getting her fluid overload taken care of prior to her transfer which in turn is helping everything else in her body slowly (very slowly) return to where it needs to be. Dr. Boyd said that her heart is really doing quite a bit better then what it was and not needing as much assistance as before but it is a long road ahead.
