My daughter Caylin is the strongest human I have ever known and she has one more obstacle in her path that she is fighting to overcome:

Stage 4 Cirrhosis of the liver.

Caylin needs a life saving liver transplant. Her health has only worsened and shows no signs of slowing down and we need your help.

With the mounting expenses of medical bills, driving, food, fees, and the after care cost to come is a stressful, financial burden for our family.

Please donate if you can help Caylin

Latest Update

*Checking in* Since being intubated again, Caylin's lungs have been steadily improving. She did not have an infection, but her body has been weeping blood internally and it has been accumulating in her lungs. She also has some bleeding in her lower GI tract, but this has also significantly slowed down over the last few days. The goal is to get her lungs as dry as possible in preparation for any liver offer in order to make it as smooth of an operation as possible. Thank you all so much for your continued support, love and patience. Please if you haven't shared her plumfund donation link, please take a few moments and put it on your IG story, or your FB page. We need all the help we can get as we have no income while she is hospitalized, and living here is challenging. As always I will update when there is more on what's happening with Caylin

Caylin has had a very hard week. She was extubated and breathing well then she had some bleeding issues. As that became more in control she had another liver offer yesterday, but it was again too large. Then a few hours later after having blood GAS levels checked she has respiratory acidosis and also old blood in her lungs from the bleeding issues she has been intubated again and is still on dialysis. I will have more updates once something changes. Thank you for your patience. Please share her plum fund link in any social media platform you have.

This is the most recent update from Caylin's daddy. Caylin is a petite little girl and it is so frustrating to have to turn down a life-saving liver because it is too big. Pray for them.

Dialysis & Intubation: Since last week Caylin's respiratory infection has worsened and because of this she was unable to breathe adequately on her own. As this occurred her renal functions also worsened and her kidneys were not able to remove the building fluid in her body as she became more and more distended. The doctors acted swiftly in deciding to intubate and put Caylin on dialysis. This is so important for her to be able to heal in order to even consider getting a liver because her body just cannot do it on its own. As of this morning she has been improving since yesterday and is responding well on dialysis. Her lungs are sounding clearer and her x-ray is showing some signs of clearing compared to how bad it was 2 days ago. This journey is a long and winding road, and she is such a strong fighter. Caylin just loves the dramatic side of life and she always keeps you on your toes. As things progress I will update more. Thank you for everything. We love you.

We are sending love and prayers for Caylin and family. From great uncle Tony Martini and family.

But we are now farther away from where we were a few weeks ago. Please donate if you can, please share her link if you haven't, please keep telling the world about Caylin and sending prayers. We need your help. It's very challenging living in the hospital, it's taxing on my body, mind, and spirit. I appreciate all of your love, words, prayers, support, gifts, and everything you have done to help me and my family through this. At this time and until she is moved out of the PICU,  we are not allowing any visitors to see Caylin. If you would like to still visit me here at UCLA I am all for it and would appreciate the company if you're ever able to come say hi and talk. I love you all. We are going to get through this together.

Never give up Brandon. When you were altar boy for me I knew you were and exceptional person and my prayers for you to grow into and exceptional man has come true. Your love and dedication to Caylin proves to all that you both are exceptional .

Cont.. They gave her octreotide to stop the bleeding, multiple broad spectrum antibiotics for the infection adjusted all of her meds accordingly and she is currently on high flow air at 15 litres @40% O2. Her CT brain scan was negative for any bleeds or activities, her 24hr EEG showed no seizure activity and thankfully her liver and kidney numbers drastically improved during these treatments. After 48hrs she is finally stable enough to sleep and so am I. She is still on the transplant list, but we aren't taking any offers until she is healed from this infection and back in the PEDS unit. Her MELD score currently sits at 36 but that will all change this week given what's happening. I will update more as this new challenge progresses. Thank you for all your support and love. Please keep sharing her plumfund link. I want to also say thank you to all who have helped and donated as we made it past the half way mark for her goal! More to come...

My prayers are with you and your little one

Multiple updates*** On April 1st, Caylin was transferred from the PEDS unit to the PICU for isolation treatment. She has a gram-negative pneumonia infection in her lungs. What started put as a very small, dry cough last week, developed into a very big problem. This cough caused her oesophageal varices to bleed, which led to her bleeding into her stomach, and as the cough worsened she began to vomit the blood as well. Caylin had a liver offer that very morning, but with the severity of this issue her team had to decline the offer and then acted swiftly to transfer her to isolation. Yesterday 4/2, her cough substationally worsened after receiving a cough assist therapy to help release the fluid in her lungs. This led to her coughing, throwing up, and heavy bleeding from her nose, mouth, and throat all day. She received blood, cryo, FFP,  platelets, and NovoSeven all in one day. More to come...

SMOFlipids and TPN - Caylin has reached a point in her liver disease where we must incorporate TPN (total parenteral nutrition) and discontinue her G-Tube feeds. This is a necessary step in moving towards her body becoming prepared for a new liver. Caylin was on TPN as a baby while she was surviving in the NICU and it was the primary cause of her liver disease, but that was 14 years ago and there have been many changes to this medication since that time. The fact is she absolutely needs TPN and SMOFlipids in order to have the proper amount of stable caloric nutrition so that the doctors can regulate her other liver, kidney and blood factors. This was a humbling and scary moment for me as this stuff almost killed her, but it is necessary to move forward. Her doctors came to speak with me about every detail regarding the changes in this medicine since that time and I put all of my trust with them in making this decision with me. πŸ’œ

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all you do and he will direct your path. God bless Caylin and her Daddy and Grandma.

Caylin has had quite a week! She was able to tolerate an increase on her G-tube feeds then we steadily increased her SMOFlipids to assist in adding the extra calories she needs. Her INR is 3.7 today & has bounced up and down from 3.0 - 3.8. Her Bilirubin is still high at 29. Her creatinine has been stable but her ammonia keeps spiking up into the 200's. That's been causing more irritability at times for her and also takes a lot of her energy away as she is tired more on those days. We had a bit of a scare over the weekend with some blood from her stool, she received FFP, Cryo, and Platelets over the weekend. Her blood levels stabilized and shes no longer bleeding. We had a great weekend together and she had some fun visits from dear friends and family. She has her good days with bright eyes, laughter and smiles, and some days where she just wants to sleep and not be bothered. She's such a fighter, she peppers us with her love as often as she has the energy to. You all are such angels

An urgent update! We are Caylin's care providers and our income comes from the continued care we give Caylin every day. We abruptly found out yesterday that our IHSS payments are being stopped while Caylin is hospitalized. This is the only source of income that we have and it is a devastating financial blow that we had not anticipated. I have increased the funding goal because we risk losing my Mother and Caylin's home now without income. Please share this everywhere you can, our need for help is more urgent now than ever and the stress it has caused in our family is only building. Thank you all for your amazing support and donations. Please share her link, post it at your place of worship, or anywhere to help us spread this message. You are our extension of hope into the world for Caylin.

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter. My prayers are w you and her recovery.

Thank you all for your patience during this time. This week has seen some improvements in her kidney functions, and she has worked her way back up to receiving her daily g-tube feeds and has tolerated them well. In addition to that, her team of doctors found an alternative to TPN and they have started Caylin on SMOFlipids. It's a fantastic lipid IV nutrition that has been extremely successful in children with liver disease to aid in gaining weight while not causing harm to the liver. While this is all positive news, Caylin is still managing a significant amount of pain that can breakthrough her medication at times and she has been much more tired. She is awake for only a few hours combined most days. Her body is doing all it can to heal and we are so appreciative of all the love and prayers and support and donations from you all. I am living here in the room with Caylin and your support helps keep me at my best for her. We love you.

Hello everyone, I wanted to give you a little update on how Caylin is doing. As of yesterday her MELD score increased again to 37. Caylin's kidneys are working overtime with what is happening with her liver and the UTI she has. She received platelets yesterday as hers had dropped, and there is a steady increase from it now. Currently she is back on feeds through her G-tube at a very low rate to keep her digestive tract stimulated and slowly bring more calories to the body. This all brings her closer to being higher priority on the transplant list so it's a double edged sword. She is fighting and smiling every day and thanks to you all for your loving donations, help and support through this difficult time. I have a lot of messages to send out to all of you incredible humans who donated to Caylin's PlumFund. I get a lot of messages &comments each day and with everything it's a lot to keep up with. Thank you all for your loving donations.
