Beat the Curve with BK
We have sought treatment for Brayleigh at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas where she will be treated with a cast for her scoliosis. The cast will require sedation and reapplication every 2-3 months in the OR in Dallas. We do not know how long we will have to do this treatment or what will be next. We do know God is writing her story and we have complete faith that this is ALL in hands and this is all worked out. Please keep us in your prayers as we navigate this process.

Dr. Sucato doesn’t think surgery is the best call for Brayleigh, yet. He wants to try the casting first. He doesn’t want to increase her chances of having to multiple surgeries which I am super thankful for. Due to her severity he doesn’t feel that bracing would be the answer. He doesn’t necessarily think that the casting is going to improve her Scolosis enough for her not to have surgery but he is hopeful it will decrease her curvature enough to make the surgery less severe if and when we cross that path.

Our pediatric ortho referred us to Birmingham for a consultation where that pediatric ortho recommended we go to Dallas. We have sought treatment for Brayleigh at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas where she will be treated with a cast. Brief History: When Brayleigh was 6 months old I (Leanne) noticed a curve in her spine while giving her a bath. With a degree in sports medicine and orthopedic background, I’m constantly observing the body and movements. I was working for an orthopedic at the time that recommended we wait until Brayleigh could stand to take an X-ray. Her first X-ray was at 18 months and he was shocked at her curvature and was somewhat concerned she had a growth disorder. He sent us the next day to a pediatric orthopedic in Mobile who took over her care. He x-rayed her every 6 months to monitor the curve and thankfully all but one visit the curve was staying consistent. We recently had a newborn so our life had been quite a whirlwind when we noticed her curve was looking quite worse and we needed to make an appointment. At that routine checkup, our pediatric orthopedic found that her curvature had jumped 30 degrees and at this point we had to make a decision to seek further treatment.
