Many of us met Denise Lopez when she was just a baby working for the litigation department at the Latino civil rights non-profit, PRLDEF (now LatinoJustice PRLDEF). She had a dream of one day becoming a lawyer, but as a single mom of two young kids, the path to get there would be challenging, and definitely not guaranteed.
Fast forward a decade and a half, and through tremendous perseverance, commitment and heart, Denise just received her Juris Doctor degree! Since her days at PRLDEF, she completed her undergraduate work, took the LSAT, applied to and was accepted to law school, and was a stellar student at New York Law School … all while working full-time, caring for her children, and holding everything down in ways few of us can even imagine. The odds were definitely stacked against her, and she landed on top!
Denise has secured a clerkship with a judge for the fall (a prestigious path for law graduates) and is now feverishly studying for the bar. She deserves to be celebrated to the fullest for all of her accomplishments, and what any law graduate needs most is CASH. Taking the bar is expensive and you can’t work while preparing, so most people go into significant debt just to be able to sit for the exam. If you were considering a graduation gift for Denise, want to support a new Latina lawyer, or just feel nostalgic about the PRLDEF days - please donate! Give as generously as you can, but please know no amount is too small—all of it will make a difference and be meaningful to her.
Let’s surprise Denise with some support from her community- she needs and deserves it! Gracias!
