My father Dr. Gary F. Dalto passed away in October 2018 very unexpectedly. We chose not to have a funeral or service because I couldn't handle it emotionally or financially at the time. (I may choose to have a memorial near the one year annivesary of his death and/or for his 70th birthday, both in October. If you would like to be notified should I choose to do this, please share your contact information.) For now, I thought I would update everyone on how we're doing.

Even though it's been months, I'm still waiting for the court to name me the Administrator of his Estate and I'm overwhelmed with paperwork and bills and debts. It's still not clear where all his money is. Seems like it was mostly wrapped up in a business that I have no claim to whatsoever (and his business associates are choosing not to share with me, which is totally legal even if it sucks).

When my father passed, everyone asked "what can I do to help?" "do you need anything?" "can I make a contribution?" and I stubbornly and foolishly said No no no it's all fine (both because I am a proud person and also because I honestly thought it was all fine). That was before I realized how expensive and stressful everything would be. So now I'm letting you all know that if you do want to help - I WILL accept your help.

No pressure, I am not asking for handouts. I'm definitely not putting this out to random strangers. We're not at risk of becoming homeless or anything, we're still "fine"... But the next installment of tuition is due soon and collections agencies have been calling me about his past due bills and loans (and lawyers aren't cheap either). So if you cared for my father and had wanted to contribute in some way and I didn't let you, well, okay, now I am going to let you. His death was way too soon, way too unexpected. He had no will, no life insurance, nothing put in writing to provide for his child and beloved grandchild. I loved my father but he really left us in a shitty position. Please don't do this to your loved ones. GET A WILL. Make your wishes known. Put it in writing. Protect your legacy.

When I finally get access to his accounts, there will hopefully be enough money to cover all the debts, repay all I've already spent, and still have a little left over for the future. But who knows when that will be. Any contributions will go towards tuition (and related expenses), legal fees, estate costs, or my kid's future. Thank you! (Only give you if you can truly afford it. I don't want anything from anyone worse off than we are! No pressure at all. This is just a resource for people who want to give a small gift.) This little baby is 19 today. A freshman in college studying Music Industry and accepted to a summer break study abroad program in Edinburgh, Scotland. So proud. This is the first birthday without Grandpa Gary. Say happy birthday šŸ’—

It's my first birthday without my dad, so I thought I'd give everyone an update on how we're doing. Remember when you all asked me how you could help and I wouldn't let you do anything? OK, now I will let you. It's been a shitty couple of months and it's my birthday so I'm going against my usual instincts and accepting help. If you want to throw me a couple bucks in memory of my dad to say happy birthday, I will accept. And if you don't, because you don't even know me, that's totally fine too. (Only give you if you can truly afford it. I don't want anything from anyone worse off than we are!) Any contributions will go towards tuition (and related expenses) at Drexel University, legal fees, estate costs, or for my kid's future. Thank you.
