Hello Dearest Friends,
Late in 2015, I began having pretty significant back pain. Through imaging we discovered that my L5/S1 disc was compressed and that I had spondylolysis, a stress fracture of the bones in the lower spine. I've used lots of modalities in an attempt to sooth the pain that comes with all of this. Some days are great!! Some days are pretty difficult. My team of doctors (who are amazing) believe that my yoga practice has helped me stay as mobile and active as I have these last few years. Yoga is THE BEST. This year, the pain began to affect not just my low back but my hips, pelvis, legs...and my spirit. I went back for more imaging and the biomechanics of my low back have worsened. Lots of nerves are being dragged forward and compressed. I have decided, after lots and lots of meditation and prayer, to have surgery to correct what is happening. I have an incredible neurosurgeon who I have lots of faith in. Surgery is scheduled for 8/28. This is a big procedure and the recovery will be about 4 months total. I'll be taking 6 weeks off of teaching and then return part time mid October. I should be up and running full time, full strength and without pain by January 1, 2020. It is very humbling to do this, but I am reaching out to my loved ones asking for support. The great news is that I have excellent insurance. But since I am a self employed yogi...I don't have paid leave. This time off will be challenging. I would be so grateful for any help you could provide so that I can return to opening hearts and hamstrings ASAP. If a donation is not doable now, I totally understand! There will be a stretch of time in September when I'll need company and I'll just ask that you come visit me. :) I am grateful to have you in my life.
Love,
Alison Hastings
