For 5 years I have struggled with chronic pain, specifically my muscles and in all of my joints, from my elbows to my toes. I don't remember a time without pain, but I noticed maybe it wasn't normal 5 years ago. I brought it up to my primary care physician and he insisted I had pain because I needed to lose weight and if I lost weight, the pain would go away. I found a new family doctor about a year later because the pain was getting worse. We ran a lot of bloodwork, which took months to find what was wrong, but ultimately it lead to discovering that I tested positive for the marker for autoimmune disorders. She recommended a rheumatologist.
Three months ago I had to stop working because my pain became unbearable. It was my first job after getting the fibromyalgia diagnosis. I had gone down to 32.5 hours a week and was still unable to handle sitting and talking for that long. The longer I sat, the more my spine screamed in pain, starting at the base and slowly creeping up my back to my neck. I got up every half hour to walk around shortly, hoping it would help. I had been seeing a rheumatologist, but he didn't know what to do with my case anymore. We had tried all the drugs he knew of for fibromyalgia and none of them helped for long. At this time I started seeing a pain doctor that diagnosed me with sciatica, and spinal arthritis after an MRI. There was complications with getting doctors notes before a procedure that ultimately did not help, so I had to quit or be let go. The injections procedure caused a steroid flare and ultimately did not impact my overall pain levels. Three(?) weeks ago I was diagnosed with Graves disease and Hashimoto's disease. Joint and muscle pain are symptoms of both of these, and neutralizing my thyroid may lead to a decrease in pain levels.
I also struggle with PTSD and agorophobia which has spiked since I haven't been working. Therapy wasn't enough. I started going to an intensive outpatient therapy program a month ago for group therapy. There is a theory that these autoimmune disorders are sometimes triggered from stress and trauma, so I am working on processing my traumas so that I can hopefully move on and eventually get better. Cognative behavioral therapy has also been known to decrease pain levels.
Now at the present, I have found a rheumatologist who is willing to work with me on a social security disability claim and who is treating the fibromyalgia. I have an endocrinologist who is working with me to get approval for radioactive iodine therapy to kill mytl thyroid cells. I have foodstamps, but they don't last the whole month with having to avoid so many cheap foods due to my IBS. I am working on getting temporary cash assistance, but my first application was rejected due to a minor paperwork issue. My partner has been helping me survive financially, but it is putting a toll on his own financial situation. It's hard for him to cover all of it and that's not fair of me to put on him. Please consider donating.
Please consider sharing and thank you for reading all of this. It I hope you are having a wonderful day.
