On November 30, 2018, a 7.1 earthquake rolled through Anchorage, Alaska and surrounding areas. My brother’s home, located in Eagle River, Alaska, sustained major damage. As you can tell from the “red tag” the house is seriously damaged. The shearwalls are no longer attached, the floor diaphragm integrity is questionable, the interior finishes are unstable and the house is separating at the intersection of the split level.
Basically, the house is splitting down the middle. As you can see from the photos, there are cracks and damage in all the walls and ceilings. It is unsafe to enter the home until the floors have been secured.
The house is repairable, but the first estimate is $100,000. This work must be done by a licensed contractor and inspected by an engineer so that the house can become habitable again.
My brother was just deployed to the Middle East and will be away for over nine months. Our goal is to get the house fixed before he returns so that he and his daughter will have a safe, happy home.
Please help us restore his house before he comes home from serving his country. Any amount helps.
