Hello Family and Friends,
Kai's brother Samudra is 7 years old and lives on the island of Lombok, in Indonesia. Due to a combination of a very stressful breakup from her husband AND THEN the corona virus, AND the reality that Lombok is still a third world country largely dependent on tourism, his mother finds herself in a very challenging financial situation and largely dependent on the generousity of others. Luckily, around a year ago, after inheriting some money from the sale of her fathers rice paddy, she bought a very small piece of land (approximately 1/10th of an acre) of her own in Kuta village. So we have determined that the best way to move forward is to try and build her a "baruga" on her own land, so she will always have her very own place. A baruga is an extremely simple form of dwelling (as you can see in the pictures included above), however, it is much better than moving around from friend to friend, and Samudra having no place to call his own. His father (Kai's bio dad) is likely to be deported at any time, due to his visa expiring (and other factors related to the breakup, and choices/consequences on his part) and so Muna will be a single mother. We love this little boy and his beautiful mother, and want to give them a home. We have also been sending money for food. I have spoken with 2 different villagers there who know Muna and tell me that she works very hard whenever she can find work, but that it is scarce. Please help us help them! Even $5 would help and be appreciated, plus it will show her that she is loved and supported by many! She has found the wood she needs, and recieved the estimate from a local builder. We anticipate totals costs to not exceed $3,000 USD. Thank you!
P.S. If any of you have any knowledge of how she may be able to maximize her small piece of land for self sufficiency, in a tropical country like Lombok, please share any and all ideas.
