A sweet and courageous family of seven have moved from Palestine into the house next door to us here in Shoreline, WA. They joined their eldest son who has been here for a couple of years and their father who has been here for a couple of months, both of whom have been working like crazy to get enough money for everyone in their family to reunite. They finally arrived last week with a few clothes having spent all of their money to get here to stability and safety.

Our community has rallied around this family and have brought them food and clothes but it is not enough and we need financial support to get this family on their feet. We are trying to raise money for basic necessities and any legal costs they might incur. Please feel free to email me at naomihillyard@gmail.com with any specific questions that I cannot address here.

Take a moment and think about how lucky you are to be where you are right now. Then, please, consider donating to this wonderful family. A few dollars or even more will make a huge difference in their lives.

Latest Update

Hi! Just an update about The Eleyans, the family you donated money to last fall. The good stuff: Kids are doing great and are all in school. I have been in their school and saw how well they are doing. We played and sledded in the snow with them A LOT. One night we came home and the whole family was having a snowball fight in the front yard. Now, the bad stuff: They are in a bad living situation. I was worried the owner of the house was going to take advantage of them or otherwise treat them unfairly or unkindly based on what I witnessed from her in the past. My worries have come to fruition and they are currently looking for a new place to live. They are grateful to be here but are scared. They have advocates but it is clear the owner is trying to find any reason to get rid of them. I'm not sure why but she has always had bad relationships with her renters, including with her son. Let me know if you know of a place for them to move to. They are very nice! Naomi

Hello! I delivered the money from this fundraiser to Salwa on Tuesday and shared all of your well wishes with her. She is extremely grateful and thankful for the financial help along with all of the free furniture and clothes. Some of the children have started school this past week. Finding and waiting for the bus was a major stressor for Razan, the middle schooler, as she was getting ready to start school. By the end of the week she was walking to the bus stop by herself like a boss. Razan finds teaching me Arabic vocabulary endlessly hilarious and I admit that I might turn up my American accent a little just to make her laugh. Thank you again for your help. This fundraiser automatically remains open for another 30 days. I'll update you again towards the end of the month, with hopefully nothing but good news. Best, Naomi

First Last (Not First? Sign Out)

This Thanksgiving I am thankful to everyone who has supported this fundraiser. Hope your day is filled with laughter and love. A quick update: The kids are all starting school on Monday. Lots of nerves for the kids and their parents. The youngest, Salahaldin, can't start school until they purchase an EpiPen. He has a deadly allergy to bee stings and was not allowed to attend school in Palestine because of it. I guess the school didn't want the responsibility. I will use part of the money from your generous donations to purchase the EpiPen and make it so he can go to school for the first time. Unfortunately, there is not a generic on the market yet, although it has been approved. The makers of the EpiPen have increased the cost of it by 400% in the last few years so the cost appears to be around $600. My heart goes out to all of those who suffer with deadly allergies and rely on these. Best, Naomi
