Your donation will support sending Destinee Fergerson to a www.BirthMama.org Ancient Holistic Postpartum Doula Training in April 2019. Destinee isn’t the only beneficiary of this training. It will benefit the countless marginalized people of color who might otherwise be misinformed and mistreated by the medicalized birthing system. Whenever, however, and wherever a person chooses to birth, they deserve loving ancestral care. Support Destinee to support birthing people.
Training is $875. A loan will be secured if that full amount isn’t raised. Additional funds raised will be used for client centered birthing supplies and the creation of marketing business materials. Support the creation of a debt free small Black woman owned business.

Birth work is part of my personal journey. Being a leader in Long Beach Breastfeeds for four years has shown me birthing people need and deserve so much more than our society gives them. My community needs me and I’m ready.
Because they share birth stories, while we exchange war stories.
Because serving the breastfeeding community connected the dots to public health issues. The system is designed for us to mistrust ourselves and our bodies, even though we are capable, and have been since before the westernization of birth.
Because I find myself wanting to support those expecting to birth new life and those that just have. Because in the past month the universe has connected me with three wonderful expectant families that I've been able to guide with catered support.
When I was becoming a mother
They told me all that mattered was a healthy baby
When I was becoming a mother
The symphony of trauma branded me
When I was becoming a mother
My baby and I were never seen
I've been called to change that for others like me. I've been called to hold space, ensuring birthing folks and new families are seen and heard. Protecting and supporting the sacred space of becoming a family is my birth right.
Because when I was becoming a mother the second time, I affirmed my voice, I advocated, I was educated beyond anything the hospital would ever dream a patient like me would be.... Because they tried to ignore me still. Because when I became a mother the second time, I had the support of my family and entire community behind me, and that made a world of difference. Because digging deeper allowed me to cry in my Senate and Assembly offices in Sacramento, lobbying for extended paid family leave while on my last week of leave with my 3 month old.
Because there aren’t enough strong, caring, and informed Black women to support all the ones being forgotten. Because I’m ready to show them they are remembered. π€βπΏ
