Sandra Castaneda immigrated to Los Angeles as a permanent resident from Mexico when she was 9 years old. At 20, she was sentenced to life in prison for murder even though she did not commit murder. After 19 years in prison, a judge vacated her conviction. Instead of releasing Sandra to her family, the California Department of Corrections turned her over to ICE. For over a year, Sandra was held in a detention center in Georgia while ICE tried to deport her. An immigration judge ultimately dismissed her case.
Last summer, Sandra was finally able to come home on bond, which was possible through many generous contributions from her supporters. Today, Sandra is building her life in Los Angeles and working at Homeboy Industries, but ICE has appealed the immigration judge's ruling and is still trying to detain and deport Sandra. If you can, please donate to support Sandra's reentry fund as she continues to fight for her full freedom while transitioning home after decades of incarceration. Thank you!
