UPDATE:
We are so moved by the outpouring of support for Daniel, who is beyond grateful for this love and solidarity from his community. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and has sent warm wishes to Daniel.
When we posted this fundraiser, we didn't anticipate that it would reach our goal in under a week! We've decided to increase the goal to $6,000 to help cover more of Daniel's debt related to the costs of being criminalized. His legal fees alone are an additional $5,000. Debt is a central issue for people who are targeted by the criminal legal system; it undermines safety and it's a perpetual form of punishment. Please continue to circulate the fundraiser to help us reach this goal.
Thank you so much,
Colby & Alisa

Support Daniel Bisuano to Reclaim His Life!
We are raising $4,000 to help Daniel Bisuano pay off his restitution which will help support his fight to remain free.
Daniel Bisuano is a 24-year-old artist, student, and community member from East Los Angeles. Daniel survived much of his childhood and youth in juvenile detention where he was imprisoned between the ages of 11 and 18. Since his release, he has worked very hard to maintain his recovery, develop his skills as an artist, and secure stable housing. Daniel currently works two jobs and is a student at the Los Angeles Trade Technical College where he is completing a degree in digital media and general education. He works at AmeriCorps where he helps formerly incarcerated individuals navigate re-entry and supports young people interested in script writing. Daniel also participates in Homeboy Industries’ training program, where he is focusing on healing from trauma.
Over the past five years, Daniel has done everything the court required of him to get off probation, but because he still owes restitution, he cannot be released from probation without community support. Criminalized since he was a child, Daniel is still under state control because of debt alone. Daniel says he feels like he always has a leash on him and, despite all the work he has done to build a new life, anything could potentially jeopardize his freedom. Once he can pay off his restitution debt and be released from probation, he will finally be allowed to take jobs in the entertainment industry that require travel and reclaim his life.
After growing up in the system — an environment that he says didn’t allow him to see beyond jail cells and death — he has finally created some stability. Please help Daniel protect that stability by helping to end this cycle of punishment and debt. Join us in supporting Daniel and help him reach his dreams of experiencing life beyond LA County and continuing his impactful work in his communities!
