After nearly 2 decades representing California’s 53rd District, Susan Davis is retiring. There are many candidates running for her seat, and Indivisible would like to host a community debate to help voters get to know the leading progressive candidates* ahead of the primaries, which will be held on March 3, 2020!
This debate will be held at 5pm on January 12, 2020, at the La Mesa Community Center. (RSVP and further details will be available soon!)
Indivisible is a grassroots community organization focused on informing and engaging citizens so that they can more effectively participate in their democracy. A coalition of local Indivisible groups** in District 53 is collaborating on this debate. In the past we have had many of our events at small local venues that we are able to use for free, but we want to open this debate to as many people as possible. As a result, we are raising funds to be used for the following:
$952 for the venue, which includes:
-- Capacity for 250 (With sufficient interest and funds, we can increase to 350)
--Ample parking & access to public transportation
--Security
--Childcare space
$48 for printing & promotional materials:
-- Materials for signs
-- Promotional flyers & materials
Can you help chip in and share with your network? Any amount helps!
* There are a number of candidates running for this seat. In order to narrow down the options to allow for in-depth questions and responses, we have invited candidates who had raised at least $6000 via donations of $200 or less, according to FEC filings as of Dec. 1st. Those candidates are:
-- Jose Caballero
-- Janessa Goldbeck
-- Georgette Gomez
-- Sara Jacobs
-- Joaquin Vazquez
** Current Indivisible co-sponsors of this debate are:
-- Indivisible CBFD
-- Indivisible San Diego Persist
-- Hillcrest Indivisible
