My name is Brentano and I like to run. Now that we’ve established that, let’s talk numbers. There are 52 weeks in a year which is just 26x2 and a marathon is 26.2 miles. Coincidence?
Yeah, almost certainly but it’s cool and I’m turning 26 in 2 weeks so even cooler. But I digress.
Now I had a thought a while back, how can I push my running even further? Well with this cosmic aligning of arbitrary numbers, I want to see if I can run a marathon distance every week for a year. And not like 26 miles split up over several days. No, like a full marathon once a week for a year.
But where’s the fun in that? Let’s add some stakes. Let’s make this a Jog-A-Thon and try to do some good for the world.
Wikipedia defines a Jog-A-Thon as, "a type of fund-raising event used by various schools and non-profit organizations to raise money via donations".
Now I'm sure the concept of a Jog-A-Thon isn't foreign to most people but for those who aren't aware, there are two basic components. There’s the rules for me running (a unit of distance and a time limit) and there is the sponsorship where you and I donate based upon either A) a pledged amount dependent on the variable distance units that I run or B) a pledged fixed amount.
So let’s go through this together.
The Rules:
Unit of Distance: 1 mile
Time Limit: 366 Days (2020 is a Leap Year)
I’ll track every run with Strava and submit my miles every week.
The Sponsorship:
Up to you.
You can participate for the whole year or just a month or multiple months. To give you at least an estimate of what I’m capable of, In the first 10 months of 2019, I’ve probably run close to 1000 miles. At 5 cents a mile, that’s $50. So you know, do what you will with that information. If you’d like to have a variable donation, just let me know your pledge and I’ll keep track of it and come back to you at the end of the month to ask you to donate the calculated amount.
Anyways, the charity will change every month. This month, let’s support men’s health and mental health by giving to Movember. You can check out what they’re all about in the link below.

Let’s run.
