Hello!

Jade (Alejandra) and I decided to make this page for any family or friends who might want to help us out on our new journey as parents. Because we live in Iceland (and because we would be limited on suitcase space if we come to Mexico or the U.S.), we won't be having a traditional baby shower. If you would like to help us, we ask for donations so that we can purchase the things we need here in Iceland. The money will go to my (Zack's) Paypal account, which I can then access through my American bank/debit card.

The donations through this site work only through credit cards. If you want to give, but don't like this method, you can also send money directly to my PayPal account (zackyjmountain@gmail.com)

If, however, you would like to send us a gift, our address is:

Sörlaskjól 4

Reykjavík 107

Iceland

Keep in mind that sometimes we have to pay taxes on packages sent to us, so you will need to mark it as a gift in the paperwork. This is why we prefer donations, but we are happy to accept anything. All help is greatly appreciated!

Here's the story:

After a whirlwind summer in that included trips to Italy, England and the United States, we found to our surprise that Jade was pregnant! And though we are thrilled, we were certainly not planning on this blessing.

I am in the third year of my PhD and am scheduled to finish in May 2021, but we know these things often drag on! I was lucky enough to receive funding for my research. I have also taken on small research projects here and there, and I will be teaching my first class (a little extra money!) in the spring of 2021.

Jade has been working for the last two years at a coffee shop above the bookstore, Mál og Menning. She had been teaching part time at both a community dance school and the arts university, Listaháskóli, until budget cuts and tax laws removed those options for extra income. She has a group of new music compositions written and ready, but due to the pregnancy and the work situation, she has had to postpone the performances. The next concert is set for late this summer.

The good news is that everything from the checkups to the midwife meetings to the birth is free here in Iceland. We have been incredibly fortunate to have friends and colleagues offer to give us or let us borrow a lot of things like strollers, pregnancy clothes, and a crib. We also both get PAID PARENTAL LEAVE from the state! Now, this won't be very much, but it is something! We get 10 months between us. Jade will be taking her 6 in a row, and I will use my 4 months sporadically.

While money will be tight with me writing my dissertation and Jade working part time at the coffee shop, we will be able to manage. Your donations will help us pay for things like diapers, clothes, bottles and things for the baby; but also groceries, travel expenses, and other day to day things that we might need.

We are very excited to start this journey. The most difficult part is not being around our families and friends in the U.S. and Mexico for help and support. We are very grateful to receive any help you would like to give. Thank you from the bottom of hearts.

-Zack & Jade (and baby Henrietta)
