If you’re thinking about buying us a baby gift - thank you so much! Your support and generosity mean the world to us! We feel fortunate to have many friends promise us their lightly used baby items and we already have a TON of baby and children's books (all the classics, too, yippee). You do not need to give anything, but we would most appreciate you contributing to our Plumfund (or mailing a check is simple and fantastic, too), which will be used for some of the big-ticket baby items (car seat, baby monitor, Pack N Play, etc.), and then anything from birth costs, to diapers, to college. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
We understand, though, that many of you find joy in shopping for baby gifts. Although we prefer to buy only what we need and when we need it, if shopping for clothes and special items really brings you happiness - we don’t want to take that away from you, either. One of the most powerful ways we can influence the world around us is by where we choose to put our money. So, here are a few things to consider that will help create the kind of world we would like our child to grow up in:
• We’re having a surprise, so items should be gender neutral (we heard the boy’s section is easiest to find solid colors without an extra bow or frill hidden in there) and we encourage you to stretch yourself as far as what seems appropriate for boys and girls (our little girl can also like dinosaurs and trucks – we’d love a little scientist/engineer!).
o And if you really can’t hold back on the blues and dresses, you can always wait until baby is born. Never too late to send precious clothing then, too, if that’s your jam! :)
• We would prefer hand-me-down, handmade, or thrifted items whenever possible.
• If buying new:
o Please choose to support ethical and/or local businesses and artists
o Organic materials when possible
• We already have enough children’s books.
• We do not have a traditional registry set up, as we prefer Plumfund and/or gently used items, but you can always check in and ask us if we’d like an item before buying.
If all this seems too complicated, again, please consider contributing cash to our Plumfund or mailing a check. We thank you so very much!
